WORK BEGINS ON 41-43 GROAT MARKET

The latest property to receive a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant is 41-43 Groat Market.

Commencing in January the property will undergo restorative repairs to the frontage including alterations to the existing shopfront. The works are expected to take 10 weeks.

This property has been in the same family ownership since 1924 but the family links to the area go even further back. Indeed the original George Rye and Sons occupied no. 45 Groat Market as far back as the 1880’s.

Nowadays the Rye family business operates out of Cramlington but they remain incredibly passionate about Newcastle’s historic heart and are excited to be ushering in a new chapter in the story of the Bigg Market.
